I recommend this book it has been excellent. Reading it made me realize that both reading and writing are essential to make of our students great writers. It gave me outstanding and exceptional strategies that I will put in practice.

The phrase this book explained so clearly and I keep repeating in my mind over and over is: “We learn to write and we write to learn”. As I try to apply this concept, my first graders prove how true it is over and over. In Science,I thought they could verbally explain the water cycle quite well, but when they were in the situation of writing about this topic it was very difficult for many. When we finished, yes, it was a process of learning to write, BUT ALSO I had the grand satisfaction that they learned something new by writing. My next challenge is to have my students write more in Math class.
